Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 Updates

An IBM Redbooks residency (PW-GS02-R01)

Description

This update extends the Redbook to reflect the latest capabilities and subscription enhancements introduced with IBM® Power11 systems and associated Power enterprise offerings. It adds support for newly announced Power11 servers, including Power S1122 and S1124 (9824-22A, 9824-42A), Power E1150 (9043-MRU), and Power E1180 (9080-HEU), and documents the new Power Enterprise Pools Subscription, which enables resource sharing on Power11 systems and is a prerequisite for Mobile Capacity and Pools 2.0. The update introduces new SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription PIDs, and describes how PowerHA can now be deployed as an independent Pools 2.0 shared utility capacity software resource. Enhancements also include expanded support for the IBM i subscription bundle, Virtual Serial Number, and P10, P20, and P30 software tiering within a Shared Capacity on Demand (SCO) pool. Detailed guidance is provided for customers planning a transition from Power10 to Power11, covering model upgrade MES, Mobile Capacity and Base Capacity Exchange, and Power Exchange options. The update also explains new consumption-based billing capabilities, including monthly billing of metered capacity minutes in selected countries and hybrid billing, which integrates Pools 2.0 metered capacity usage into a PowerVS Enterprise Savings Plan. Finally, this update documents enhancements to the Cloud Management Console (CMC) Enterprise Pools application, including usability and functional improvements, restated requirements and limits, and clarification of maximums. Key security considerations are highlighted with references to the security white paper, including what data is collected by the service and how sensitive information is masked.
