Abstract
This IBM Redbooks publication provides a comprehensive introduction to the IBM Storage Scale System family of integrated hardware and software storage solutions. Built on IBM Storage Scale technology, the IBM Storage Scale System delivers high-performance, reliable file and object storage designed for AI, high-performance computing (HPC), analytics, and hybrid cloud workloads.
The publication covers the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 and 3500 product lines, describing their architecture, hardware components, software stack, and deployment models. It explains how IBM Storage Scale System functions as a scalable storage building block within an IBM Storage Scale cluster, supporting massive scalability, software-defined RAID with de-clustered erasure coding, and flexible network connectivity including 100/200/400 Gb Ethernet and InfiniBand HDR/NDR.

Introduction
Purpose of this document
This IBM Redpaper publication provides an overview of the IBM Storage Scale System. These scalable, high-performance data and file management solutions are built on IBM Storage Scale technology. Providing reliability, performance, and scalability, IBM Storage Scale Systems can be implemented to support a wide range of diverse requirements.
The IBM Storage Scale System 6000 builds upon the innovations of the most recent Storage Scale System models. The Storage Scale System 6000 comprises two 2U canisters for an overall 4U footprint. Each of the Storage Scale System 6000 canisters provides eight Gen5 x16 Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) slots.
This publication is designed to help you understand the solution and its architecture. It describes and provides an overview of the system components and tools that are used to order the best solution for your environment. This includes planning the installation and the integration of the solution into your environment and correctly maintaining your solution.
The solution is created from the following combination of physical and logical components:
- Hardware
- Operating system
- Storage
- Network
- Applications
Knowledge of the IBM Storage Scale System components is key when planning an environment.
