Abstract

With the introduction of increasingly powerful servers such as the new eX5 enterprise systems, more virtual machines and transaction-heavy databases can be hosted on a single system, resulting in exploding I/O usage. To alleviate connectivity bottlenecks, a high-bandwidth 10 Gbps Ethernet solution is required that includes 10 Gbps Network Interface Cards in these high-performance servers and IBM Ethernet Switch B24X for network connectivity.

Contents

The IBM Ethernet Switch B24X is a compact, high-performance, high-availability, and high-density 10 GbE solution that meets mission-critical data center and High Performance Computer (HPC) requirements. It can support 1 GbE servers until they are upgraded to 10 GbE-capable Network Interface Cards (NICs), simplifying migration to 10 GbE server farms.
